Riya poked at the dish with her fork, half expecting it to turn and glare at her.

“Riya, eat the food!” She raised her eyes and saw her dad looking at her pointedly. Between gritted teeth, he continued, “We’re guests here. Learn to behave.”

Scowling, she forced a smile and shot a glance at her host, Mrs. Mehra, who had an anxious look on her face. “It’s vegetarian, Riya. You can eat it.”

“Doesn’t look like it,” muttered Riya grumpily.

“Oh, that’s because it’s made of soya! It’s a vegetarian meatball. Tastes exactly like chicken, right down to the texture!”

  1. I remember the first time I had soya chunks, I felt the same too! Ever since, I have switched to soya granules and flour, but haven’t been able to embrace the chunks yet! Great choice of an oxymoron!
