“How exactly you manage to forget a minimum of three items every single time is frankly beyond me, Geoff!”
Rolling her eyes in exasperation, Hailey thrust her hand into the paper bag and started pulling out the items and slamming them onto the kitchen counter, watching Geoff all the while with a look that implied complete doom.
Geofff merely grinned, shrugged his shoulders and winked at her saying, ‘Yet, you still send me to the store every week to buy the groceries, so whose fault is it, really, if you stop to think about it?’
Hailey’s murderous glare magnified and her lips parted to come up with a cutting repartee when her hand touched something soft at the bottom of the bag.
Her eyes fell upon a lush bouquet of red roses that stared back at her with a card pinned to them, the words, Happy anniversary, Lieutenant Hailey. I’ll take orders from you all year long, reminding her what day it was.
