“MOM! She’s doing it again!”
“Donna! Quit it. That’s the third time this week. Let Ella have her share.”
“But, but. . . mom, she’s eating MY share!” Donna glowered at Ella as the other smiled smugly at her.
“Enough, you two. Donna, learn to eat your own food and be happy. Please!”
Donna moved a few inches away from Ella, smarting under the unfair treatment.
A cunning smile spread over Ella’s face as she watched her sister. Donna saw red and with all her might lunged forward and ripped Ella’s skirt and out tumbled 4 chocolate cupcakes right before their mother’s eyes.
A deathly calm descended over the room as Donna watched her mother glare at Ella, her hand twitching the way it did before a spanking. In that instant she wished she hadn’t given her sister away.

Welcome to the Bar-A-Thon, the blogging challenge over at Blog-A-Rhythm. I’m blogging every day this week and will be writing short pieces of fiction on each of the daily prompts.
I’ve also taken up the theme of the 7 deadly sins and will touch upon one each day.
Today’s prompt: Caught red-handed
Today’s theme: Gluttony
Typical of siblings isn’t it? Want them to get into trouble but not too much trouble either!
I have been in such sibling fights with my sister for the longest time!! and for silly things like number of grapes in my bowl! today we can have a good laugh about it, those days it seemed like a matter of life and death! this post brought out those memories! lovely!
Don’t know why, but you had me thinking of that scene in Alice Through the Looking Glass when the sisters are caught by their Mom and Mirana lets the Mom scold Iracebeth. Hehehe. Well written, Shailu!
Hahaha! That is siblings at their best!! I assure you they are going to get it!! Felt like I revisited my childhood.
Story of every other sibling! And yet it’s unique for everyone in their own way!
Cheers
You know, I would have let it be if Ella had taken just one. But four? Hmm.
My heart goes out to the fallen cupcakes 😀
This scene is a leaf from the past! Brought back some memories. We all have experienced this, the sibling rivalry, snitching on each other and then feeling miserable about it too.
Oooh.. cupcakes. I’d do that I think for the cupcakes. But my sister was such a non-eater she would actually bribe me to eat up her stuff. Double fun for me and a double chin too :-).
What is it with gluttony and being caught red-handed…sigh! I liked how you ended it…very real!
The girls are really careful with this. But that was my sister’s favourite revenge. Giving me away. 😀
I mean, seriously! Gluttony should be next to Godliness instead of that dirty scheming Cleanliness!! Right?
This is used to happen in our house too … the three of us fighting over each other’s share 😛 Once in a while all three of us would get a good smack too 😛
Ahh the turmoils of a sibling. To snitch or not to snitch!
Oh, I see this scene replaying so often at home. Yes, snitch on your sibling and you pay heavily. 😀
Apart from the saintly few every sibling has gone through a phase like this…
😉
I never got my share of Chocolate as I had the habit of keeping them for days and munch them in parts. My Brother, who used to finish his share in one go hunt for mine and left me in tears.
I have been Ella as a kid. Only thing it wasn’t cup cakes but Water Melons and my poor brother got scolding, until I was caught and got whipped. After that day I have always shared first and never taken more than my share. I one hit too close to home.
I dont agree..gluttony is not a sin 😛
Especially when it comes to cakes and cup cakes !
Great post. Sibling love is mysterious.
Interesting how you are blending the prompts with seven deadly sins.
