Samantha fought to control the jitters as she waited for her name to be called.

Sitting by her side, Andy squeezed her hand, ‘You can do this.’

But could she?

‘Samantha Jenkins, please take the stand.’

It was time. Walking unsteadily she reached the witness stand and turned to face the bailiff. As she placed her hand on the Bible, a voice from her past echoed ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness‘.

Looking straight at the defendant she was about to put away for life with a single false fact, she swallowed hard. Guess there’s a first time for everything.

Welcome to The Moving Quill!

For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I’ve taken up the theme of

An Oxymoron rendered in micro-fiction.

Each day’s title will have one half of the oxymoron while the second half will be revealed towards the end of the post.

Follow me as I unravel each tale in exactly 100 words.

  1. As long as she can live with the nagging guilt for the rest of her life. You bring up so many emotions in a few words, it is commendable.

  2. False fact! Oxymoron and alliteration together! This post gets a 112/100 from me 😀

I also loved the open ended ending. Now, I can stay up all night, wondering what made Samantha state a false fact after swearing that she wouldn’t!

Oh, do make it a full length short story, Shailaja! On popular demand ?
