Here’s your bag of doughnuts, Maria.
I picked up your laundry today.
Can I get you coffee?
The workers all stopped at Maria’s cubicle, plying her with attention. The new intern, Eugene, observed it all with amusement. Nudging an older colleague, Jay, he jerked his head in Maria’s direction, ‘What’s with the Godmother? Are we her slaves?’
‘SSHH! Not so loud.’
‘Why? She can’t do anything. She’s just another employee.’
Dropping his voice, Jay whispered, ‘She’s a witch. She puts curses on people. It’s a known secret.’ Eugene was about to guffaw when he saw Maria’s eyes boring into his.

Welcome to The Moving Quill!
For this year’s A to Z Challenge, I’ve taken up the theme of
An Oxymoron rendered inย micro-fiction.
Each day’s titleย will have one half of the oxymoron while the second half will be revealed towards the end of the post.
Follow me as I unravel each tale in exactly 100 words.
Follow me on Facebookย or Twitter to keep track of my updates

That was scary. Hope Eugene didn’t become the victim. This oxymoron reminded me of my HoD. He used to say, ‘it’s an open secret’ all the time ๐
Ooh! Maria has mind-reading abilities ! And she’s a real witch! She has to be from Hogwarts! ๐
This oxymoron is so cool! Known secrets are the best ones, and it’s amusing to watch the expression of the people who don’t know the secrets that others know ๐
Ooh that’s an interesting twist…a real witch! ๐
I have no doubt about this ๐
Ha ha ha, the plot thickens and you shall find out soon. Or maybe never ๐
Oh poor Eugene, said the wrong thing at the wrong time. Hopefully he has learnt his lesson. The only question that remains is, what did it cost him? ๐
A witch eh? Maybe, we’d get along well ๐
I don’t even want to know what happened to those hapless souls.
Ah! This was lovely! Loved the play of words here!
The first word that came to my mind was HEX! Only you could combine a regular workplace with Salem Witch elements. Bravo!
OMG!! I wouldnt like to be anywhere near Maria.
That’s a cool twist, Shailaja!
Oh, oh… Someone is going to have problems!
Like Roshan, I want a longer version too. I enjoyed this one.
You know, this reminded me of ‘The devil wears Prada’, where Meryl Streep plays just the kind of woman who can put a curse on people who don’t bow down before her!
And may I say, in addition that clever little tale, the witch in the picture looks gorgeous.
Now this is a story I want a longer version of ๐
Preferably with real witchy powers!
This took a scary turn! Enjoyed reading it.
Thanks for sharing ๐
Best Wishes!
I wish I could be a witch like that. Known secrets are all too common between friends ?
Ha ha! The known secrets at workplaces. Another good one Shailaja.
cool.. love the twists and the sweet short reads each day on your blog..
