Shrouded in black silk
Ascending the wooden stairs
She welcomes the rain
This is my first-ever attempt at a haiku.
I have tried to be faithful to the original Japanese rule of 5-7-5 syllables.
Be kind in your criticism 😉

Shailaja, your first attempt is better than a seasoned haiku writer’s attempt 🙂 Loved it a lot.
LIKE IT !!!The 5-7-5 is not mandatory anymore so dont worry about the structure…. Keep penning more…

criticism.. NAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaa .. not many can write one .. especially me and I cant even dare to think of writing one ..
Nice one though …
I love haiku specially because it’s challenging to touch the reader with just 17 syllables. You painted a lovely picture of enjoying the rain… Even without seeing the picture I imagined a similar scene. 🙂
Reading a Haiku after a long time. Very well done.
Doesn’t seem like your first attempt Shailaja. Beautiful!
Considering it’s your first attempt it’s great Shailaja! It took me quite a number of times before I could write one. Keep it up! 🙂 <3
Lovely Shailaja!!! Help me write too:)
Criticism? I loved it..I don’t think I can ever do a haiku!
You underestimate yourself. You will do it very well. Recall 15 to 50?
lovely! teach me too please 🙂
Just follow the syllabic pattern, Nibha 🙂 Really fun when you try it out!
Will surely give it a try 🙂
I don’t know to write a haiku and I possibly never will. I’m amazed at how in such short words, one can express so much. Great attempt, Shailaja 🙂
Try it out, Shalini 🙂 It’s great fun! Thanks for the comment!
A tree house? Fascinating. First time writing haiku? It’s good!
Thanks for the compliment, Corinne! It is actually the wooden structure which is erected at Dubare Elephant camp. Visitors can mount the elephants for a short ride, using the top of the structure 🙂
I think you’ve done a wonderful job of it 🙂
Lots of respect if thats a first time effort!
Yes, yes, my first time at haiku 🙂 Thanks a ton, Roshan! Means a great deal 🙂
Haiku has always stumped me. I don’t think I can ever attempt one. But I believe you’ve done a great job here. What’s better is that it’s not fiction 🙂
Aww thanks! I was always wary of trying it myself. Finally decided to take the plunge 😀
