The glistening snow inside the globe seemed to beckon in a lazy, languid manner. That and the little orange Ferris wheel were just too difficult to resist.
He could feel the tears prick the back of his lids but he valiantly held back.
With shaking hands, he put the souvenir back on the counter and said to the eager salesperson, ‘No thanks, dearie. Not tonight.’
Wrapping himself in his muffler and his memories, Joshua trudged out of the store. All the while, his son’s voice seemed to call out from the Ferris wheel, like that fateful night, four winters ago.
