Something to share- #Friday #Fictioneers

Margie stood there with a set expression as Diane threw open the door and hugged her.

“So glad to see you, darling!”

“Mom, I have something to tell you.”

“Me too!” Diane whispered conspiratorially.

She propelled Margie up the stairs to her old bedroom.

Margie blinked as the light glinted off the metallic drum set in the centre of the room.

“Dad turned it into his band room, since you won’t need it anymore. Cool, right?”

Margie swallowed the lump in her throat and said, ‘ Darn cool!’

Inside her handbag lay the divorce notice from her husband of five years.

  1. Poor Margie, but well done on her for not spoiling her mother’s excitement. Maybe tomorrow, or next week, she’ll be able to say what she needs to. A poignant tale.

  2. Really great story and so unexpected, I’m sure. It sounds like her parents love her so I hope she doesn’t leave to keep from ruining Dad’s new music room. I’m sure Dad and Mom would want to help in her desperation. Good story! Nan 🙂

  3. oh..oh..somehow reminded me of the scene from the movie “Arth”..sorry if the comparison seemed poor..I really liked your take, usual the emotions have been brought out perfectly!

  4. Poor girl. Not only does she have nowhere to sleep and no marriage, she’ll have to listen to her father and his pals whooping it up in her old bedroom. Tragic.

  5. Great piece of fiction Shailaja! Hopefully she’ll be able to crash somewhere…maybe the couch? 😉 <3
