Quote -a-day challenge 1/3

It’s very rarely that I take up tags these days. For one thing, I don’t have the time. No, I’m not just saying that to act important. I mean, I don’t get the time to sit, pause, reflect and write the way I would love to write. But that’s okay, because Life changes.

Quote-a-day challenge, however, is something that I felt compelled to do, only for two reasons. One is the fact that the lovely, warm-hearted Soumya Prasad tagged me to take it up and I cannot say ‘no’ to her. Two, because I realise that some quotes by some writers have left an indelible mark on my mind.

They are also theĀ silentĀ forces that breathe through my life and my writing. They take up residence in that quiet corner of my soul and emerge when I find myself deep in despair or emptiness.

I decided to lead with this quote which I love to bits from an author who has influenced me as a reader, a teacher and a writer.

You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way.~ Richard Bach

I’ve learnt to let go of the past with its share of pain, suffering and anger. It’s liberating. Bach and his glorious book swam into my ken when I was in college and it was perfect for me. So perfect, that I constantly exhort my students, new readers and people who ask me for book recommendations to start with Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

It’s the only book of which I have two copies and I can’t bear to part with either!

It’s not easy to weather the storm in the face of stiff opposition. It’s especially hard when your heart tells you to do the opposite of what your mind has to perform. But to be limitless, to capture the beauty of this present moment, to feel it so completely that it overwhelms you, this glorious moment is the best present you can ever have.

I’m supposed to tag other bloggers but instead I will merely ask that anyone who reads this and feels so compelled, to take up the challenge on their own blogs.

Write about your favourite author, a prized quote, a special moment that touched the core of your being.

Do it because if you don’t say it out loud, you’d burst from the effort of staying mum.
