Riya caught them just as they were about to pick it up.
“Heena! Ritu! Don’t touch that. God knows where it’s been!”
The two of them looked guiltily at their mother and backed away slowly from the tantalising object which lay at their feet.
“But, Ma, what is it? A lollipop, maybe?”
Riya gave them a shake and admonished them severely with, “You know better than to go near strange items. How many times have I warned you? What have I said?”
With a bored yawn, Heena and Ritu preened their feathers and chanted, Never go near the human habitat.
